Polaroid Corporation was developed and established by Dr. Edwin H. Land in 1937 to manufacture products such as headlights, sunglasses, and camera filters. Along the way Dr. Land invented the Polaroid Land Camera and in 1947 announced his invention of One-Step photography. The Polaroid model 95 Land Camera was born and was made from 1948 to 1953. The very early models had a flexible spring sighting post while the later ones had a rigid post. Most collectors distinguish between this difference and the flexible version is the preferred one. Many collectors will have both versions on display. Until recently, many collectors avoided the Polaroid cameras as show pieces along with their other fine collectible cameras. But as time marches ahead we will see these cameras disappear from sight, just like the Kodaks, Agfas, Argus, Imperial, and all the others have. The digital era is here. |
